Magnat Transpuls 1500: at €1,090 a pair, the Magnat Transpuls 1500 speaker has a pretty similar design with a vintage aesthetic, 15” woofer and dual horn-loaded tweeter. The Magnat speakers offer even more powerful and deep lows, as they are capable of going down to 16Hz compared to 30Hz for the Eltax Monitor PWR 1959s. The highest notes are also more detailed, soft and subtle.
Magnat Transpuls 1000: also in the vintage design category, the Magnat Transpuls 1000 are a more compact alternative to the 1959 Eltax Monitor PWR. However, this advantage is at the expense of the woofer, which is reduced to 10”, so the Magnat Transpuls 1000 cannot compete with the Eltax in the lows. In addition, the Magnat speaker only features one tweeter. Despite this, it is still a good choice for a small listening room where it would be difficult to integrate the Eltax model, which is more suited to a room that is over 20m2.
Sound quality
Auditioning necessarily takes place in the lounge with a sympathetic re-arrangement of furniture to liberate a little more operating space and, even then, there's no way the 1959 is melting into the background. But planted about 4m apart with mild toe-in and half a metre clear of boundaries, its slab-like presence is at least crisp and clean and undeniably purposeful. Considering the 30-to-250W recommended power, I line up a few amps to see if there's a comfortable fit for the room at either end of the power scale. Fulfilling the ‘minimum requirement' brief are the small but wondrously over achieving Rega io (HFC 475) and Melody's lovely entry-level tube offering, the Action Ultra (p48) – both good for around 30W a side. For the full 250W, I've dusted off my old Musical Fidelity KW250S all-in-one monster receiver-plus-CD – itself something of a blast from the past that's still capable of packing some serious punch.
In truth, I needn't have bothered. Twenty-eight Action Ultra tube Watts are more than enough to tickle the 1959's tummy. With a Motown-flavoured Michael McDonald singing I Was Made To Love Her, the speaker springs to, well, slightly larger-than-life, the huge bass drivers fully engaged in the up-tempo action with no apparent shortfall of body or grip, if a benign hint of tube-y bloom. I'm used to a generous sound in this room thanks to the Falcon RAM Studio 30 (HFC 442) floorstanders that basically live here and cost around four times as much as the 1959. The RAM Studio 30 simply oozes poise and understated power. Tonally it's a tad warm, but wonderfully couth and coherent top to bottom.
It isn't that the broad-shouldered 1959 significantly pumps up the size of the performers as much as makes the whole event sound larger and more enveloping. McDonald and backing singers aren't so much ‘in the room' as transported to a more extensive, if less precisely rendered, space. The Falcon's tightly focused imaging is traded for soundstage scale and presence, which is initially a little disconcerting but you soon adjust and simply get lost in the cavernous acoustic. A consequence of the widely spaced tweeters? Quite likely.
With the Melody amp doing its bidding, the 1959 is at its most airy, spacious and graceful. It goes loud with impressive dynamic reach and discrimination yet, even at modest volumes, combines weight, drive and finesse deftly enough to do justice to the dense and complex Tidal Master stream of jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding's Formwela 1 from latest album Songwrights Apothecary Lab. Switching to the Rega io sharpens the timing, sacrifices a little top-end air and subtly adds more bounce to Spalding's sinuous bass figures. But in both cases it's the ease with which the low and very low frequencies are delivered that really astounds. You can double up as many titchy mid/bass drivers as you like, but they won't sound as convincing as a well-engineered 15-incher. Sure, a subwoofer can be a ‘fix' of sorts for the less well-endowed tower, but the clue is in the name – subs are a sub-bass asset and certainly shouldn't attempt to go much higher. Utterly effortless, seamlessly-integrated-from-the-midrange-down bass that breathes as it plays tunes is what I'm talking about and the 1959 is where you'll find it in luxurious abundance.
Finally, and just for fun, the big MF gets its chance to give the 1959 all it's got. It can take it (just), but I'm not sure I can – at least not firing down my 10m lounge. To honour the speaker's retro vibe, Huey Lewis And The News playing The Power Of Love is a Huey Lewis/Back To The Future ‘just too darn loud' world of borderline aural pain. Dial it back a hair, however, and the result is amusingly awesome at a Wayne's World kind of level. Talk about a wall of sound, dude. Party on!
Conclusion
You don't need a 250W amplifier to coax the best from the Eltax 1959. For this review, the 28W Melody Action Ultra integrated tube amp seems a match made in heaven – all the volume, body, bass and dynamic alacrity you'll realistically need wedded to the kind of smoothness, warmth and lucid musicality valves are so good at. Contemporary tech with an old-school spin as ordered. You'll need a big room, but for the money the PWR 1959 is an exceptional vintage

В принципе, у меня есть достаточно много экземпляров колонок для наглядности. Коротко попробую рассказать о различиях и спорных понятиях.

Первую колонку зовут Elenberg SS 5062. Точнее звали так до того момента как они были доработаны. У неё три динамика. Два СЧ / НЧ (средне-частотный / низкочастотный) , третий ВЧ (высокочастотный). Но это «двухполосная» классическая система, потому что СЧ / НЧ динамики играют одну полосу и они абсолютно одинаковые . В теории, два СЧ / НЧ динамика играют как один, Кроссовер делит звук на две полосы.

Следом за и Elenberg следует Cortland 7000. Он включает в себя четыре динамика. Играют эти колонки три полосы. Высокочастотный, средне-частотный и два низкочастотных динамика. Два НЧ, играют одну полосу . Были проведены эксперименты и попытка сделать из них «три с половиной полосы». Но так как НЧ динамики одинаковые, сопротивления у них тоже одинаковое, а вот сопротивление катушек, которыми осуществлялся срез частот – не совсем одинаковые. Они играли рассогласовано и было принято решение – от этой затеи отказаться.

Далее следует Cortland STH 5500. Ранее снимался ролик по доработке этой акустики. Здесь смотреть первую часть. С завода эти колонки на «две с половиной полосы», которые воспроизводятся так же тремя динамиками. Иначе сказать,один динамик играет ВЧ , один СЧ / НЧ динамик, и один НЧ динамик – играет чисто низы.
Хочется отметить, что сейчас они стали трех-полосные. Они стали трех-полосной системой только для того, чтобы «правильно» играли именно с колонками Cortland 7000, которые стоят на фронтах. Cortland STH 5500 стоят на тылах, на заднем и на переднем центре.
Какие изменения произошли, когда из системы «две с половиной» сделана «трех-полосная система»? В первую очередь, поменялось общее сопротивление колонки. На шильдике написано, что это акустика на «6 ом», а по факту, сейчас получилось «10 ом».
Что хочется сказать про динамики, в общем.
Чем СЧ динамик отличается от НЧ динамика. С виду они почти одинаковые. Естественно, материал диффузора разный, но это ещё не всё. У них значительно отличается жесткость подвеса. Чем мягче подвес, тем ниже резонансная частота и соответственно тем хуже он играет средние частоты. Поэтому сабвуфер всегда имеет очень мягкие подвесы динамика. СЧ динамики всегда имеют жесткий подвес.

Последний экземпляр, о котором пойдет речь дальше, это – Eltax из серии Hollywood. Сегодня он будет дорабатываться. Это полноценная «трёх-полосная» акустика. У неё есть просто огромный высокочастотный динамик. Два средне-частотных динамика. А с боку колонки есть еще 8ми – дюймовый динамик. Он реально имеет очень мягкий подвес. Но если логически подумать, то делать из такой вот формы трех-полосную акустическую систему – это неправильно!
Трех-полосная система должна выглядеть, примерно, как Cortland STH 5500. Все динамики должны играть «вперед». Здесь же, получается, что НЧ динамик играет в бок. Такое исполнение допустимо, но только если полоса динамика обрезается до стерео-разделения.”Это где-то до 300 герц. Но здесь вряд ли он обрезан до 300 герц.
Impact
Домашнему кинотеатру необходим сабвуфер. Это прописная истина, от которой никуда не деться, если хочется смотреть кино, сопровождаемое мощными звуковыми эффектами. Поэтому выбор сабвуфера — дело довольно ответственное. В новой линейке Eltax присутствуют три сабвуфера, предназначенные для работы как с собственными фирменными комплектами 5.0, так и с акустикой других линеек и других фирм. Все три аппарата имеют отличный дизайн с закругленными боковыми стенками. Помимо превосходного внешнего вида эта особенность улучшает акустические возможности низкочастотников. Все три сабвуфера предназначены для работы в составе домашних развлекательных систем с разной мощностью и установленных в разных помещениях. Младшая модель Impact 6 имеет встроенный усилитель мощностью 60 Вт, который нагружен на 165-мм вуфер. Саб может работать в диапазоне частот от 45 до 250 Гц.
Следующий по возможностям аппарат именуется Impact 8. Он имеет возможность создать звук мощностью до 120 Вт в звуковых пределах от 40 до 250 Гц. Для этого в больший по объему корпус установлен и больший по диаметру динамик — 200 мм.
Возглавляет линейку сабвуфер Eltax Impact 10. Он создан специально для больших помещений, в которых установлены домашние кинотеатры высокой мощности. We began our listening session with the Atoll IN200 amp and the Brothers in Arms album by Dire Straits. The spectral balance was perfectly preserved with rich and textured mids, as well dynamic, deep and nicely extended lows. The Eltax Monitor PWR 1959's 15” driver provided a powerful performance, without ever being too ostentatious. The double tweeter ensured an accurate reproduction of the original timbres and brought beautiful transparency to the soundstage, which, on this album, benefits both the acoustic and electric guitar. The timbres of these two instruments soared with finesse and smoothness.
The 15” bass-reflex loaded woofer provides the Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 with dynamic, deep and extended bass.
With Lana Del Rey's song Salvatore, the soundstage was transparent, airy and spacious. The spatialization was masterfully controlled, with perfectly structured sound levels for a natural reproduction. The singer's voice was naturally rendered in the center of the soundstage and gave an impression of proximity with the artist. The harmonic range and texture of her voice were also accurately reproduced.
The Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 speakers are very versatile and can reproduce any musical style efficiently. They displayed great energy with Anne-Sophie Mutter's classical music performances, particularly during the orchestra's apogees. The sound was reproduced naturally, with transparency and clarity. The violins that accompany the different compositions were beautifully smooth and free of any harshness.

Design
The Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 is the Danish manufacturer's top-of-the-line speaker. It has a design that will appeal to vintage hi-fi enthusiasts. Its thick MDF cabinet benefits from several internal braces to reduce resonance. The speaker rests on a hollow base so that it is raised and to limit unwanted vibrations. The design of the Eltax Monitor PWR 1959's cabinet is based on that of speakers from the seventies. It is 90cm high, 38.5cm deep and 51.8cm wide. It is therefore advised to place it in a relatively big room in order to not encumber the space and to let its 15” driver express itself freely. It is more suited for rooms from 20m2 to 70/80m2.

Drivers
The Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 floorstanding speaker has a three-way design with four relatively standard drivers that are intelligently implemented. It has the advantage of being equipped with a very large 15” driver. Its cone is made of cellulose to provide rigidity and lightness, guaranteeing a dynamic and responsive reproduction. The large diameter of the cone allows a large quantity of air to be moved and provides a very low frequency resonance, which gives the Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 a good transient response. This driver is loaded in a bass-reflex enclosure with a double circular port that extends the frequency response to 30Hz.

Measurements
The Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 floorstanding speaker has a linear response across a frequency range of 30Hz to 22kHz. It has an excellent power handling capacity of 250 watts with a sensitivity of 96dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. In spite of this high sensitivity, a hi-fi amplifier with a good power reserve is preferable in order to efficiently power the large low frequency driver. Finally, the screw terminals on the back of the speaker are compatible with wide gauge cables, banana plugs and fork plugs.

Eltax Monitor PWR 1959: listening conditions
For our review, we chose to connect the vintage Eltax Monitor PWR 1959 speakers to the Atoll IN200 amplifier, a transistor model developing 2 x 200W into 8 ohms across a very wide bandwidth, using Viard Audio Silver HD12 HP speaker cables. Afterwards, we paired them with the Cayin CS-55A KT88 tube amplifier, more modest in terms of performance as it delivers 2 x 40 watts into 8 ohms. The source used was a network player connected with Norstone Jura RCA cables. We used it to play FLAC files shared on the local network, as well as our Qobuz and Spotify playlists.

With the Eltax Monitor PWR 1959s, the Danish manufacturer provides a very impressive pair of speakers. The vintage design is excellent and gives any hi-fi installation a retro look. The 15” driver is this speaker's main strength and offers deep, punchy and consistently well controlled lows. The midrange is rich and textured and ensures incredibly realistic vocals. The double horn-loaded tweeter is remarkably precise and brings a great deal of clarity and transparency to the soundstage.
